A készülék elsősorban a plazmaívvágó pisztollyal végzett hosszú, egyenes vonalú, vagy nagy ívű vágások elvégzésére szolgál, de lángvágási és hegesztési feladatokra is alkalmas. Biztosítja a pisztoly folyamatos, egyenletes sebességű mozgatását, mindvégig azonos távolságban tartva azt a munkadarab felületétől. A nagy reduktoros egyenáramú motor forgó mozgását csiga-csigakerék áttételen keresztül rovátkolt felületű mozgató kerék teszi lineárissá a munkadarab felületén. A kezelő feladata, hogy a készüléket a fogantyú segítségével a jelzővágások figyelésével az előrajzolt vonalon tartsa, ügyelve arra is, hogy a kábelköteg el ne húzza a készüléket. Amennyiben a munkadarab felületén rögzítünk egy hosszú egyenes vezetőszálat (pl „L” -acél) a készülék a vezetőgörgők segítségével önmagától is az egyenes vonalú pályán marad. A fejtartó dönthető, így ferdevonalú vágást, gyökölést is végezhetünk.
